I am a fiction writer, poet, and artist.
I began writing poetry and fiction in high school.
My travels and the U.S. and years living overseas in Western Europe and East Asia (including extensive time in China and Japan) prior to becoming a writer have had a profound influence on my subject matter and writing style, and inspired numerous stories. Books with Asian related themes include A Poetic Journey To East Asia in the 1980's, Vegetables From A Chinese Garden And Elsewhere, and Fragments Of Painted Memories. Soon I hope there will be another book with an Asian theme, Beijing Tales, which I hope to have published by a traditional publisher.
In addition to writing fiction and poetry, I have also published books with my artwork collections. I was exposed to art at a young age and had my first art class at age six. While growing up, I experimented with different mediums including macrame, India ink, and woodblock printing. I later worked in charcoal, pencil, and soft pastels before finding I niche in oil pastels, watercolors, and watercolor pencils. I use only non-toxic pigments and materials. My time abroad has also influenced my approach to art and artwork subject matter.
I am fond of lush landscapes, rugged mountains, unusual flowers, and oddly shaped rock formations.
I am also the founder of Randy Lu Pastels And Watercolor (https://www.randyluart.com) and design the artwork featured on my company's out of the ordinary stationary products and wall art. I enjoy bringing art into people's lives.
